I'm 56 years of age and I love to train...by extension I'm still able to play hoop indoors and outdoors on a competitive level. By The Grace, I've become a "Park Legend" in local gyms and at local parks. I started hooping when I was 14
thanks to my older brother (I was horrible before his intervention). By The Grace I became a High School "Star" and a "Srand Out" player in Junior College and Division 1...was also blessed to play on the International circuit before retiring to seek spiritual development. But basketball became like martial arts to me...I saw no reason to stop developing skill sets as I aged.
Here's the thing...I've always valued cushion in my hoop shoes. Without proper cushion (especially when I hit the 45 mark) my game suffered due to immobility. I hooped in Hokas for a while due to the superior cushion, but Hokas lack lateral movement stability due to being a running shoe.
I recently gave in to the Nike GT Hustle 3 because it has Hola-like cushioning with lateral mobility...but zero court feel.
I saw a review on Li Ning shoes and did some research. I've always been a Nike guy due to the superior technology. I had adjusted my game to the GT 3 and was content with zero pain in my knees and feet after hooping. But my intuition said to give Li Ning a chance (plus D Wade reminded me of the ball player I could have been by The Grace).
So I researched and narrowed it down to the Shadow line...but hesitated. Then I saw a review by Zach The Show/Foot Dr and decided on the 808 Ultra 5...despite them being a little pricey ( but so was the GT 3).
In my mind I was contemplating creating my own shoe but figured I'd give the 808 a shot and send them back if not satisfied.
The 808 turned out to be the shoe I was imagining creating. Max cushion, max lock-down, plus max court-feel...dream shoe! Plus they look really good from an ascetic perspective (I got the "Lizard" color way). My only complaint is I wear a 14 in Nikes so I ordered a 14 in these...but they're clearly a size too big - still it's a dream shoe.Im hoopin' indoors, outdoors, pain free, full mobility, doing moves I haven't even attempted to do in 20 plus years! It's the shoes.
I'm about to order another pair in a size 13 or 13.5. I can't even imagine what's going to happen once I start hopping in a shoe that' is my actual size!
So thank you and keep up the good work. Oh, and the extra durable rubber plus the traction/grip on the outsole is absolutely great! When I was young I would have a reoccurring nightmare in which I was hooping but my shoes had no traction/grip and I would be sliding all over the court! Again, this is my Dream Shoe!
There is one improvement that I would add to the shoe- it doesn't "need" it but it would be a great addition on the 808 Ultra 6. If interested please let me know, I would be honored to collaborate. I am officially done with Nike and I'm telling everyone. Thank you!
